HISTORYThree teachers, frustrated by feeling left out and underrepresented by their union and other educational organizations, came up with an idea. "Why not create our own non-profit organization for teachers, by teachers, with a mission of supporting the teacher as an individual practitioner and innovator of best educational practices?" Thus, Innovative Teachers of Texas was born! Innovative Teachers of Texas, lovingly referred to as ITTexas, was created to provide a modern alternative in professional liability insurance for teachers without funding a liberal political agenda. The organization will remain a incubator for establishing similar organizations in other states, as well, by providing guidance, information, and best practices for future state chapters. ITTexas consists of forward-thinking professionals who espouse policies that not only allow, but actively encourage, excellence in education and professionalism in the classroom. Growth & Development In early 2022, Innovative Teachers of Texas procured office space to serve as state headquarters and began to work on building out the space, procuring furnishings and supplies, and generally making ready to serve its members. The beginning of the 2022-2023 academic year brought multiple opportunities for booths or tables at various New Teacher Orientations or Convocations at districts around the state, leading to a rapid increase in membership. During this time, the organization also developed relationships with several like-minded parent groups, businesses, and even some politicians, though they never contributed to any lobbying groups or political campaigns. They established donor protocols for those who do not teach, but wish to offer financial or other support in ITTexas' mission, and they secured several prominent partners among local dignitaries. In an effort to get the word out about ITTexas, board members and area coordinators were featured on several local radio programs and podcasts. The Epoch Times quoted one of our board members in a discussion of education practices and concerns in modern society.. |
